Laban & Us – how it all started

Structured movement improvisation: this is the creating tool of almost all contemporary choreographers nowadays. But how did this emerge, in opposition of set movement patterns (ballet, ballroom dance, etc)? Well, the first question Rudolf von Laban, the father of free dance techniques we use today, asked was: what does the word “movement” mean at all? So let’s see what we have to do with all this here and now!

An interactive performance by and with the Contemporary Dance BA students of the Hungarian Dance University, mentored by Katalin Lőrinc dancer, DLA

Duration: about 20-30 minutes (depending on ideas emerging on the spot)

Music: Let’s see!

The production is supported by the Zoltán Imre Programme of the Hungarian Cultural Fund.
